East Fortune Me 163B 191659

Left hand view of the Walter HWK109-509A-2 test article. Note the thick aluminium pipes running to and from the combustion chamber. They extends beyond the square 'systems box', which makes it impossible to install the engine in a Me 163B airframe. Note the differences with the A-1 model, as for example shown on the Duxford restoration photos. This engine has no gearbox covering most of the left side of the square 'systems box', and the prominent cilindrical steam generator has been downsized and moved downwards.
