'The Wing Group' is a St. Louis, Missouri based group of Lockheed, McDonnell Douglas and Boeing technicians. This tight group is designing a homebuilt kit of the Komet. The group's members have an impressive record of building and repairing aircraft, such as a Spad V-II, an Albatross D-III, a Fairchild-22, a 1947 Monocoupe, a 1919 Waco Cootie, a Titan, a Challenger, a 1949 Aeronca Chief along with working on the usual Gulfstream, Mooney, Piper and Cessna aircraft.
The group's intention is to build three prototype Komets: one for parts and mock up and two flying versions, a single seater and a two seater via jump seat. Preliminary construction details are a composite fuselage (with steel tube internals) and flying surfaces in wood. A pusher Lycoming O-320 or O-360 driving a three bladed pusher prop is planned. Depending on engine size and all up weight the machine as envisioned should top end at two hundred MPH. With a 2000 FPM climb this should be a fun machine to fly.
The Wing Group can be contacted via e-mail, and a website is in the making.
