They give an often shocking insight in the Soviet military, and the lifes of those serving in it. Fascinating reading! (with a special thanks to Tjepke Heeringa for finding the last three titles).

Fulcrum - A Top Gun pilot´s escape from the Soviet empire Alexander Zuyev, with Malcolm McConnell the story of MiG 29 pilot Zuyev, who defected to Turkey with his MiG 29. Zuyev, being an excellent pilot, went from the L 29 straight to the MiG 23, and then quickly to the third regiment to receive the MiG 29. Zuyev died in a Yak 52 crash in the USA on 10 June 2001.

MiG Pilot - the final escape of lt. Belenko John Barron / Viktor Belenko Avon Books (also McGraw-Hill?) 1980 0-380-53868-7 In 1976 Belenko flew his MiG 25P to Japan, after a long struggle with the ideals of the communist state. An international incident resulted. Belenko still lives in the USA, and gives lectures to NATO pilots.
